Human Slingshot

Posted by Sandy Hutchens

This is probably a lot of fun although it looks a little bit dangerous maybe something that I could have done in my youth.

I would like to find out how fast she was going, I have seen similar contraptions in amusement parks but usually they drop from up to down this is the first time I have seen some one get shot up into the air

Detective will sing at Phillies game – Hutchens grins

After a hectic week of investigating robberies and other crimes in Palmer Township, Detective Matt Allshouse will be faced with a more daunting task on his day off — performing in uniform in front of millions during the seventh-inning stretch of tonight’s Philadelphia Phillies game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Citizens Bank Park.

Allshouse, who joined the Palmer Township Police Department in June 2008 after several years as a semi-professional crooner, will sing “God Bless America.” He was asked to perform by the Phillies entertainment director yesterday afternoon.

This will be Allshouse’s fourth time performing for the Phillies, but his first time in the two years since he became a lawman. After getting the invitation, which the lifelong Phillies fan more than gladly accepted, Allshouse, 33, said he “practiced a few times, but didn’t want to push it.”

“Well I still remember the words, so it should be good,” Allshouse said. “I don’t have the stamina as when I was performing every weekend, but I should be good for one song.”

This will be the third time Allshouse has performed “God Bless America” for the Phillies. He has also sang the National Anthem for them once and for the Baltimore Orioles once, he said.

Before becoming a detective, Allshouse performed as Matthew James for about five years in the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia and New York regions. He had a solo lounge act, performing hits from crooners like Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin. He also performed with the Lehigh Valley’s Rob Stoneback Big Band.

He gave up singing when he joined Palmer police and when he and his wife, Krista, had their 1-year-old daughter, Ava. Allshouse, who lives in Easton, said he is still debating whether to take their daughter to her first Phillies game: “It’s going to be cold and it’s going to be late.”

Tonight is Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, with the Phillies leading the best-of-seven series 2-1. The game is scheduled to start at 8:07 p.m.

Allshouse will have support at the game. His wife will stand alongside him as he performs, and Palmer Township Sgt. Detective Timothy Ruoff scored a ticket to the game last night and will be in the stands.

“I don’t usually get nervous, but I might just a little bit this time, maybe,” Allshouse said.
